New Glasses
Thursday 24 July 2008, 8:49 pm
I decided to follow in the footsteps of el mambrino, and purchase glasses online. Unfortunately, Zenni Optical, who came highly recommended by the aforementioned mambrino, don’t seem to deliver to the UK.
Instead, I decided to go with Glasses Direct, mostly because I had seen a pair I liked in a catalogue at Joanne’s parents’ house a few months ago. They came in the post today. Joanne said that she thought that they were “too hip” for me, but I really like them.
Finally, I’d like to thank Glassy Eyes for all of the suberb work he’s done in finding great deals on-line and for providing simple technique of calculating pupillary distance (PD).

Just one question - how do you have the eye test on line…?

@Tony Scott The eye test, I had to go to an optician for, but buying glasses on-line is a lot cheaper than buying on the high street.

So, which glasses did you go with? What is the frame width? My head is very wide so I have to get them in excess of 140 mm.

I got mine online too and love them. $12 bucks y’all, and my prescription has even expired but I always feel so ripped off when I have to go every couple of years and there is no change of prescription.
I just measured my pupillary distance in the mirror as best I could and then guessed from there knowing that the average was 34.

@Mike VC I got the Benson + Ashley frames in Gunmetal/Black. They were a bit on the expensive side, but they were the only pair I really liked the look of. Frame width is 123mm.
@Ducky I went to the optician, but work paid for that. It was worth it. My eyesite has apparently improved slightly in my right eye and stayed the same in the left. I’m told that can happen as you get older. I wish I had spent as little as you. I was taken in by the lure of fancy frames.

zenni do deliver to the UK done 5 orders over the last 2 years, they charge a flat USD 9 for delivery for as many pairs as you order, last order was 9 pairs for friends & family. To get delivery for UK enter order as normal & when you get to address section just click on UK it will say Hong Kong Postage as this is where the orders are manufactured and they send direct to UK from there. only problems I have had has been delivery for straight forwards OK at 2-3 weeks from order but with more complex orders ie varifocal/progressive and reactalite/photochromatic has normally been 4-5 weeks but not too bad considering the prices
