I need your advice

When I started this blog, I made the decision that this would be a personal blog. At the time I was freelance and was thinking of launching a professional blog, which I still haven’t officially started.
I’m considering making some geeky posts — stuff about the events I’m going to and some technical posts — either on this blog or on another blog. What would you guys think if I posted the geeky items here? I know some of you would be bored, but would you just stop reading the blog? Would you be in any way interested?
A good way to gauge this is twitter. My tweets became incredibly geeky about a month ago (when I was attending WordCamp UK). For those of you following me on twitter, was that annoying? I thought I noticed that some people stopped twittering or twittered considerably less shortly after that happened. Was I just imagining that?
I write this blog primarily to keep friends and family up to date with what I’m doing, so if any of you are going to be put off by overly geeky posts, let me know.

I can’t really offer advice either way on the feeling of your readers, but I’m facing the same dilemma. I want to start blogging about WordPress, Subversion, Linux VPS hosting, and other geeky bits and bobs, and I don’t think my main site is the right place to do it; it started out as a blog for film and music reviews (and personal stuff) and I want to take it back to that original idea. Hence, a new domain and blog for “geek” posts.
Hope you get your answer.

I think you should leave it all in there. It’s all part of you and the geekiness will easily be scanned by those who want to skip to the non geeky bits, like the beer or cycling or music chatter, and others will get a sense of what your particular brand of geekiness may be, which is a part of you as well, and should be give free reign to express itself.
Chuck it all in there JVC, it’s all good.

Well I don’t know you personally but for people I do know online, i find a good mix of geeky and personal is always fun! It’s nice to get to know the people behind the ‘e-chat’. I doubt you twittering about geeky stuff would stop other people twittering.

I’ll keep reading…

I’d still read your blog though I might possibly skim over the geeky posts

I’ll continue to read. As JoeO says, “Chuck it all in there JVC, it’s all good.”
